We get these questions a lot.
Here are our best answers to the most frequently asked questions...
Can't I find all of this information online for free?
Probably. However, through my research, training, certifications, and experience helping others improve their balance, I have curated the best information, exercises, resources, and training methods available to help you find success the first time, without spending a lot of your own time going through the “trial and error” method.
The Toolbox is intentional, researched, and crafted to make it the
best possible balance-focused fitness resource available.
I don’t like on-line classes, do you offer in-person classes anywhere?
This program is vastly different from a weekly class you might attend in-person in that it is a comprehensive balance training program that includes exercises, resources, home safety tips, etc. to help you build balance and strength while reducing the risk of falling. You will also receive tips on how to find in-person classes to continue your balance training/maintenance following your Better Balance program.
What if I do all of this work and still fall?
We cannot prevent 100% of falls. However, with balance training and falls prevention awareness we can certainly reduce the risk.
How do I keep this up after I’m finished?
Maintenance is key! That’s why as part of the program, you will be directed to local resources in your area to help you maintain the progress you make during this program.
How much time does this take?
The recommended time commitment each week is 2 hours to see the best results. The best part is, the program is completely self-paced so you can fit it in when and where it works best in your schedule.
When will I see results?
Research indicates it takes 50 hours of balance training to effectively reduce the risk of a fall. However, with consistent training each week (at least 2 hours a week), you may very well feel stronger and more stable well before the 50 hour mark.
What if I can’t stand on my own?
No problem! All of the exercises are either done sitting in a chair or can be done while standing with the aid of a chair or stable surface. Modifications are given for all levels so you can start where you are today and progress forward!
What are your qualifications?
I have 30+ years of movement training and teaching experience, am certified as a group fitness instructor, and most importantly as a Senior Fitness Specialist, which gives me the information and training I need to help you reach your goal of better balance and less risk of falling. In addition, I base all of my balance training programming on the work and research of physical therapists who are known in their fields for their work in balance training and falls prevention.
