There are numerous classes and programs available in your community that you may not even be aware of!

Your local senior center, YMCA, YWCA, parks and recreation, etc. are invaluable resources that provide local programs including YOGA, TAI CHI, BALANCE classes, CARDIO exercise classes, GENTLE exercise classes, and so, so much more!!

National Council on Aging

The National Falls Prevention Resource Center, through the NCOA, offers online screening tools, educational materials, and guidance for healthcare providers and community organizations to help effectively reduce fall risks in senior adults.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The CDC’s falls prevention resources aim to empower you to take proactive steps to reduce your fall risk by providing educational materials, screening tools, and clinical practice guidelines for healthcare providers to identify and address potential fall hazards.

Evidence-Based Programs are programs that have been developed, researched, and scientifically proven to meet the set goal of the program. To be approved as an E-B Program, it must meet the following criteria as set by the Administration for Community Living (ACL):

A 10-week program that uses bingo with exercise and health education to improve older adults’ fitness, health knowledge, social engagement, mobility, independence, and fall prevention awareness.

CAPABLE is a five-month home program for older adults, involving therapists, nurses, and handymen to reduce fall risks, improve mobility, and achieve functional goals.

A low-cost, evidence-based group program for older adults that combines cardio, balance, strength, and stretching exercises, meeting 3x/week to enhance fitness, health, and social interaction.

FallsTalk is a personalized program for individuals with balance issues, featuring interviews, reflection, and check-ins to reduce falls, regardless of mobility or fitness level.

Fit & Strong! is an eight-week program combining exercise and education to help older adults manage arthritis symptoms, build confidence, and maintain a balanced activity routine.

Healthy Steps for Older Adults (HSOA) is a falls prevention program for adults 50+, offering workshops to improve awareness, health, and access to resources.

Healthy Steps in Motion (HSIM) is an eight-week, twice-weekly exercise program for all fitness levels, improving strength, flexibility, and balance to reduce fall risks.

HARP is a tailored in-home program reducing fall risks through occupational therapist assessments, hazard removal, home modifications, education, and self-management, with proven cost-effective outcomes.

The Otago Exercise Program is a series of 17 strength and balance exercises, reducing falls by 35-40%, with Physical Therapist-led assessments and ongoing support.

SAIL is a strength, balance, and fitness program for adults 65+, improving mobility and reducing falls. It includes 3x/week, one-hour classes with standing or seated exercises.

Stepping On helps older adults regain confidence, stay active, and prevent falls through various strategies, reducing social isolation and improving muscle strength and balance.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention enhances strength, flexibility, balance, and stamina, making it one of the most effective exercises for preventing falls.

This six-week class series teaches Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and daily exercises, providing coaching and home practice to effectively reduce the risk of falling.

This 24-week, evidence-based falls prevention program includes two one-hour sessions weekly, featuring warm-ups, core practices with forms, variations, mini-therapeutic movements, and cool-down exercises.
